Hello all, I have a maple tree in my front yard, do not know what kind. But I placed 2 dried brown leaves in one shrimp tank. It has been there for about 4 days and I have not seen any tannins leaching yet, the water is crystal clear. Lights are on 12 hrs per day on a timer. It is only a CFL light, ...

The female will tend to hide in thick vegetation or dark place if the eggs begin hatching. She will often be hanging upside down as they hatch.

We bought a water distiller from Sears for $150 a few years back. We used it for drinking water because the water softener made the water taste bad. It does about 1.5g at a time, just start it at night and let it go. That might be cost effective, but it has no minerals or anything else in it, it is ...

I have copper water supply pipes and my shrimp have been fine. I have had them since Mar 2006. Do not worry about the water from your pipes or the lead from the solder. The amounts are so small they will not affect FW shrimp. They might, however, affect saltwater inverts, like some polyps or corals,...

I have 2 ghost shrimp that ended up looking like this, and being macrobrachiums. They also seem to smell food as soon as it hits the water. But they are living with my RCS and seem pretty peaceful with the RCS. Since they were sold as ghost shrimp, I only paid $.25 ea.

Java moss is not a fast grower no matter what you do, but s the ideal plant. Java moss grows quite fast for me in my 10g tank. In fact I had to cut my light down to 12 hrs per day it was growing so fast. Right now I take out about 20% of the java moss every 2 months so it doesn't overtake the tank....

Cherry shrimp breed so readily I would never bother to do this. I would also think that having a dead shrimp body inside a filter bag would allow chemicals from decomposition to build up (even if a few escape) and kill the eggs.

I think part of your question was about interspecies breeding. Perhaps Mustafa would know which other speces cherry red shrimp can breed with.

Mustafa makes excellent general points. I have had Asian golden clams (which do not breed in a fish tank) for 15 months. I have 3 left, primarily, I believe, because there is little food for them to eat. My water has always been crystal clear, except when I stir up the tank during cleaning. Here are...

Take several squares of acylic, and place them in the bottom of the tank. When the animals move onto them, remove the squares and put where you want to.

You might also use inverted pop bottle caps, well rinsed of course, or anything else with a flat surface.

I'd say seed shrimp, or clam shrimp. I think they are both ostracods. I had those too. They are about the size of a pinhead, and they glide slowly through the water, they don't jerk like cyclops or daphnia. Colors range from tan to greenish.

Shrimp won't eat them but fish will. As will hydra.

I have had crayfish, ghost shrimp, and cherry shrimp for over 12 months and I only used iodine once, 12 months ago. Then I stopped when I figured "If the iodine makes them molt, too many moltings too close together will kill them." All my RCS have been breeding well for 5 months with no io...

Oak leaves will make the water more acidic, and this will dissolve their shells. Why do you add oak leaves?

Cool! Love the triops. Are the streptocephalus also called "fairy shrimp"? We had those in a pool in another town I lived in as a kid. Very neat. I did not know what they were when I found them.

Is it possible to buy fairy shrimp eggs somewhere?
