Re: Ideal substrate?

It gets into everything and plugs up moving parts. It gets ugly & dirty and is hard to clean. It turns into concrete and then releases toxic gas into the tank.

Re: Ideal substrate?

clarkii are a better choice. The get along much better and have a more intense color. You can also get whites, reds, oranges and blacks.

No subtrate is the best. Just lots of good hides.

Re: brown leaves for shrimp

Rocks are not as good as organic material. The carbon seems to drive the production of the growies the shrimp like. Driftwood can make the water acidic, so be careful with that if your shrimp like a basic pH.

Re: brown leaves for shrimp

There is no debate. There are those of us the do use dried leaves, and those that have not tried it because they think it isn''t a good idea. Experience trumps opinion every time. Leached hardwood leaves are safe, reduce nitrates and phosphates, and provide a medium for biofilm to grow on. The shrim...

Re: brown leaves for shrimp

You do not want to put rotting leaves from another tank into this one, the reasoning should be straight forward. sstimac, I don't get what you are saying. I've been doing this for some time and the shrimp love it. Large handfulls of leaves go into a bucket and are covered with water from my tanks. ...

Re: brown leaves for shrimp

The leaves should go in a bucket with used tank water for about a week. If the water turns dark you may want to do several changes until it doesn't add much color. In that time all sorts of stuff will start grooowing on the leaves.

Re: Red Cherries won't breed, help.

Most of the babies will be eaten. Some have reported that they have gotten them to reproduce in a community tank with lots of plant to hide in, but few babies survive. The guppies and tetras love them. The shrimp know this and are stressed.

Re: Bee/Bumblebee/New Bee ?

Do a search on "new bee" and you'll see that that term is not appreciated by the Moderator. There are several good threads on the differences between Bee shrimp and Bumblebee shrimp. If you can get a bettwe pic of the side of the shrimp we can easily tell the difference. Your searches shou...

Re: Red Cherries won't breed, help.

1st thing to do is find another tank for the fish. I would also plant java moss and java ferm and move the lilly to the tank with the fish. Unhappy stressed out cherries don't berry up very much. Once they are happy they are very prolific. The only other thing would be to check your phosphates. My e...

Re: Help with 2 IDs

Welcome to the foorum, and VERY cool shrimp too. The first is certainly a long-arm, but not a rosenbergii. No clue on the 2nd either, but sounds like you have a male & female.
