So... it might actually be true that algae eating shrimp don't lay eggs unless males are present? I suspect this, but haven't strongly looked into it. This often referred to page does an excellent job of showing and describing the difference between males and females. http://mikes-machine.mine.nu/br...

Looks like a boy, by the way :D I think.... my female's claws are much smaller. Then again, she's had to regrow them in the past. If you already know it's a girl you've probably seen it produce unfertilized eggs though. Lots of literature on this species because they're a human food crop. http://www...

Hi, I'm not familiar with what an esky is. Do you mean an Eskimo cooler? Sudden/fast temperature changes are usually more destructive than the temperature simply travelling to a certain point. (unless it's an extreme point) Breather bags which don't need air spce (thus reducing jostling and turbulen...

About greenwater.... Would I be correct in saying that it would not only be useless in shipping shrimp, but harmful because in the dark it'll just help remove oxygen from the water and/or die and pollute the water? Because that's what I told the seller. Under the conditions I described, would shrimp...

Nope, not here, GB. Not in the LFS's I usually go to. In fact the ONLY shrimp I've seen sold here are those red opae ula, and wild variety N.d. sinensis (and red swamp crayfish if that counts). Instead of ghost shrimp as feeders here, it's the wild Neocaridinas because they breed (as we know cherrie...

Crystals will really eat Hair algae?? It's also since been written on this board and site that Ghost shrimp will eat hair algae. Is this definite? I have been trying to get something (non fish) to help control hair algae in my outdoor tanks. I don't mind algae in general, in fact welcome it, but HAI...

Shrimp packing disaster!
Recently I received a package that I couldn't believe. Shipper said 30 shrimp were sent. First alarm goes off when I see the small size of the box :!: Open the box to see virtually no padding :!: one (1):!: bag; a small :!: Ziploc :!: with greenwater :!: and no air space at all :!:. I'll skip the de...
