That's poo. There was a lot food available and the snails did their job. One of the negatives of using black gravel. I did try once to remove the poo but it made the tank a mess. Now after years of no cleaning it's impossible. A lot to be said for a bare tank.

Re: Hermit crabs?
There has been quite a bit discussion with keeping hermit crab with the shrimp. Search and you will find. Do not believe there is a positive consensus. What I have found is you can only have one or two of the crabs in our small containers. They need to be fed much more than the shrimp. In my opinion...

Re: White and red colour change
Very interesting coral in your tank. Don't recall seeing the tall branched one before. I think your shrimp look fine. If they are not darting about and just grazing away any color change you may notice would not be a concern.

What's with the beer and salt and pepper shakers? Planning a shrimp barbecue in the near future. Nice black lava rock. Anxious to see the tank when the shrimp arrive.

Re: Macroalgae melting
The algae Looking pale can be caused By too much or too intense light. Have you changed your lighting? I do not believe the Süßwassertang is meant for brackish water. I would remove it. Send us a few pictures.

Re: I've got babies
Doing a good job. Happy to see larvae. They basically go everywhere. I believe they are attracted to light. At night I have used a flashlight in a corner of the tank and it seemed to attract them. They may get stuck in the string algae but be careful removing it as you wouldn't want to throw out shr...

I have a glass stand that it sits on. The arms are fully supported and do not touch the ground. I bought it second hand from another shrimper.

Re: New owner, molting issues?
First I would like to say you have good looking tank. Second it appears from your post you followed Mustafa's directions. I tend to agree with Varanus that it could be bad luck. Stressed shrimp could last a few days to a week before sub coming to stress and die. Making changes to your tank now can s...

Re: New tank here as well. Suggestions are welcomed :)
Edwin do not use that soil. Use substrate for salt water tanks. Black is available. If your local pet store sells salt water creatures they usually have open bags available. A pound or two is all you need. Black is a great color for substrate but over time debris makes it look unsightly. Those two r...

Real nice Ace. I hope Mustafa chimes in on the green egg shrimp. I have seen green eggs in the fresh water red dwarf shrimp.

Re: Nanosphere 9
Wow a little jealous of the green egg shrimp. Can't recall seeing that before. The mom looks very light. Does she have any red.? Maybe she will produce 'white' offspring. Very interesting. These are Mustafa's shrimp?
