The only problem I have found with keeping apple snails with shrimp is the tank space each snail requires....that and the fact they are poop machines.

I find my cherry shrimp are all lazy and only swim when they have to.
My tiger females tend to walk around but the males like swimming.

The best way to keep shrimp is without any fish (except ottos and bn plecs). Some fish will chase and pick at shrimp....this harassment makes them hide away. Some fish will also eat shrimp and/or shrimplets. Also if your fish get sick you're limited to a couple of treatments that won't affect shrimp...

I'm so jealous, I love setting up a new tank.

Would there be any way to construct this sort of filter in a tank that's up and running? I just set up a sponge filter running alongside my normal filter but the air pump is noisy. I've got a couple of other pumps to try but if I could set up the hamburg filter I could keep my normal filter and get ...

Hi Shrimp&Snails, it looks like you are going to add some salt to their home. I hope it works out for them :-) It's a shame but I can't add salt to any of my tanks....I have shrimp and snails in all of them. A couple have died but the rest are just scooting around the tank and are more see-thro...

I did suspect they were river shrimp but I didn't know they were brackish.

I lost quite a few over the summer heatwave and with filter problems....I bought a sponge filter today and will start running it alongside the original filter for a week or two, remove the old filter and then hopefully all will go well.
