I'm working on pinpointing this right now with C. diminutus. My experience has been that it takes 3-4 weeks for my crays to hatch and almost a week to go through 2 larval stages before becoming independent. Last night I observed mating and then isolated the female. If the mating was successful and e...

I supplement my bamboo shrimp with a mix of algae wafers, high quality flake food, shrimp/crab pellets and freeze dried brine shrimp. I grind all of this up into a very fine powder and give a TINY pinch every few days when I see them actively filtering. This is just to ensure that they do get some v...

I'll agree that Aquaclear filters are probably the best HOB filters on the market. They are relatively inexpensive to buy but are even more inexpensive to operate because they don't require purchasing replacement filter cartridges all the time. However, I prefer to buy larger ones for my tanks than ...

Although both Moina and Ostracods are crustaceans, they are not even in the same CLASS of organisms. You don't sound like you are being picky about getting a specific species of Moina, and would have certainly been happy with any species of moina (and would probably have been satisfied with a closel...

I'd say no more than 1/8 of a wafer for just 12 shrimp. Try to figure out how much they can eat in an hour or two. If they don't finish that, decrease the amount next time.

I feed them most every day but I also skip days too and probably end up feeding them 4-5 times a week. Like you, very small portions and I offer different foods each time.

I wouldn't pay any more for specialized shrimp food than I currently pay for the basic high quality fish formulations that I feed my shrimp. Because most shrimp/crayfish are opportunistic detrivores and scavengers, they will eat most anything and high protein formulated foods are MUCH more nutritiou...

Any who, has anyone had experience with the so called "Ultimate Sponge Filter"? They are excellent sponge filters and have features that make them long lasting, very durable, and highly effective. After comparing my new shipment of them with other sponges I have seen, I wouldn't use anyth...

They don't like selling inexpensive filters that lasts years and years without the need of purchasing expensive replacement cartridges.

I am in the process of setting up some new aquariums for captive breeding studies and will be using bits of PVC pipe as caves. Thanks for the tip about using new PVC because I was going to use some older stuff that was laying around but since it is so cheap I will get new material.

Here is how they work: When air bubbles are introduced into the vertical tube, the water in the tube flows upward along with the bubbles. More water flows through the sponge and into the tube to replace the water that flowed upwards. The air bubbles rising inside the tube create a pump with no movin...

Here is a suction cup version that I think is interesting. I like it because it has two sponges so you could thoroughly clean one and still leave one full of bacteria as needed. It is called the Oxygen Plus Bio-Filter 2. I have no personal experience with these but it is one type that I have serious...

My shrimp really like leaves that I pull from the leaf litter in the stream behind our house. Already full of natural goodies to pick off and eat.

Cambarellus diminutus females grow larger than males. Males have larger claws relative to body size.
