I wonder if there should be some kind of explanation of what constitutes a cycled tank. To many people a cycled tank, is just one they have added a bacterial supplement too. I'm not sure these are even a good idea, where shrimps are concerned. Maybe just a basic breakdown of 0 Ammonia 0 Nitrite and ...

Apparently there are no native freshwater shrimp species in the U.K.
Just crays.

Hi shrimp and snails,

Are you sure these are not just our native river shrimps?..........Actually found in brackish water round river outlets. If so I don't think they will survive in totally fresh water for long.

They are the only thing I can think of that you could possibly buy for so little.

Hi T,

Nice to have someone else here in the U.K.

Eheim Liberty hang on filters are available here in the UK. All you need is a small sponge to cover the intake. Again these are near silent running.

Good luck

Like most things it depends on conditions, but for comparison I would say its no faster than java moss.

Liverworts in the shrimp tank anyone?

As slow growing plants are now favoured, I was wondering if anyone has tried aquatic liverworts. I would imagine that their large surface area would be enjoyed by a hungry shrimp on the prowl.

These are becoming very popular over here for planted aquaria, being extremely ornamental and easy to grow.

I suggest you perform a few searches in the forum before you continue...spend a few hours or days reading posts so you don't make the same old mistakes over and over again. After all, that's the purpose of this website. Great advise again Mustafa. I know it takes time, but it will be well worth it ...

Maybe, but personally I would rather try and make the spots more visible rather than merge them in to one. We already have quite a few green forms, but not many spotted ones. :-D

Very true, thinking about it, as this comes naturally to our shrimps, they should have some natural immunity against these organisms anyway.

Who needs red colored Shrimp. When you have a Shrimp that looks like that, solid colored Shrimp have nothing on this Shrimp. I know I'm biased on this because these are the only breeding shrimps I have currently. But I have to agree Newjohn. Sometimes you only see the true beauty in something when ...

I think a dozen of so is about the maximum.

When I have a spare tank, I think I'll try and separate the darkest female.
Who knows, in time it may be possible to select a near black shrimp with those polka dots.

Nice thought anyway.

I actually have no idea how long any individual shrimp has lived. What I can say is they are not very productive. For a very small shrimp they have rather large eggs, but sadly this seems to mean there are less of them. This pic should give you some idea. Just caught her cleaning them. http://www.wa...
