Re: Newbie with Two Tanks
The snails may not be necessary for a while, but I find them absolutely necessary for the long term. Without them brown algae and cyanobacteria tend to take over and the substrate becomes "mucky" and possibly anaerobic after some time. May take months or years, but it will happen. For thos...

If you're ok with a possible initial die off, then maybe we can start offering the plant in the shop.

Re: Faded/starved algae?
I'll do additional feedings, probably weekly, and watch for any increased color. As I mentioned I have not feed this tank since starting it six years ago so adding food is something new. Weekly is not necessary. If you want to start feeding, then I'd feed every month or two a tiny amount. That woul...

Re: Switching tanks
Supershrimp tanks don't go through a traditional "cycle" with high loads of ammonia as the shrimp do not produce much ammonia at all. That's why it's possible. Plus, they are hardy, and so are the snails!

Re: Clutched for 2 months?
What was your water temperature at that point? 2 months seems a bit too long. 30-35 days at around 80 degrees is normal. Maybe if your water was in the 60s it would take 40-50 days, but 2 months? If you water wasn't too cold, maybe you are witnessing your shrimp getting berried a second time. The la...

Videos made, pictures taken, now working on adding them to the store. Check later today or tomorrow. :) Here's the video that will be on their shop page soon: https://youtu.be/Jn0mqbdCaJ8 This is the more orange variety. The "neon yellow" variety will be available in the future. (i.e. ther...

Re: Dwarf Hermit Crab
That's actually pretty amazing that they lasted that long! Did they eradicate your snail population, though? They may not be able to if the snails reproduce quickly, but they will definitely make a dent since they seem love eating them.

Re: Cloud layer?
Salinity differences do not cause cloudiness in my experience. They cause "blurry" water for a little while, but that disappears quickly. The kind of cloudiness that the picture in the first post shows is a bacterial bloom. The only solution is to leave the tank alone for however long it t...

Re: Brackish Moss Ball Plant
I may have already multiplied. What happens is that tiny, almost microscopic pieces of it fall off and spread all over the tank/container. Then, at some point, you magically notice a ton of tiny balls appearing because those microscopic pieces finally reached a size that is visible to the human eye....

Re: Batophora occidentalis success story
That's awesome! Thanks for sharing your progress with this species! I assume these are the descendants of the few sprigs of Batophora I sent you back in 2020. Those sprigs had spores developing on them, so those must have turned into what you see right now after the original few plants died off. It ...

Re: Mold vs algae?
My eyes are probably pretty bad because I can't make out the mold at all. Either way, mold is food for shrimp. I don't think a little bit of mold will affect water parameters much.

Re: Switching tanks
The new tanks still needs to wait to be ready after setting it up, but you can accelerate things by moving the old substrate/decoration/plants etc. over to the new tank. You should be able to shorten the whole process down to maybe a week or so.
