Hi Jackie, of the leaves you mentioned have you seen a big difference in one leaf being better than another or have they all been good for your tank? Not really any big difference. The sea almond leaves give the water a nice, greenish-gold color - the tank looks interesting. They have anitbacterial...

Which is....? :)

Personally, I believe it doesn't really matter as much as people would like it to. I've seen beautiful, deep-red shrimp (CRS and Cherries) that were never given special food.

bulrush wrote:Oak leaves will make the water more acidic, and this will dissolve their shells. Why do you add oak leaves?
I've kept shrimp in water of pH as low as 6. I didn't see any shells dissolve :)

BTW - adler leaves are great too. I've never used maple. Oak - yes. Also sea almond leaves.

If you look at the pictures at the bottom of the link to the blue shrimp page, you will see that the original blue shrimp I got were blue...some of them were deep blue and some of them were almost black. The next generation does not keep those colors....hence, they must be either artificial and/or ...

Is the baby a shrimp born in your tank? If so you are lucky, my friend spent a considerable amount of money on high-grade shrimp whose offspring looks like ordinary "cheap" CR :D

I feed the shrimp something called HBH crab and lobster bites. The non filter shrimp gobble those up fast. Sometimes the filter shrimp go around those and start fanning their arms around like they are eating but I know that's not a good food for them. I feed the guppy a little guppy food. I also st...

Re: my shrimp are getting smaller...

In a nutshell - shrimp, like other crustaceans, grow after molting. Their bodies absorb water and stop as soon as their exoskeletons get hard enough. I've never heard of shrimp getting smaller. They do stop significantly growing when they reach a certain age. Proper feeding is important, but if a sh...

ont forget cherry Can live under conditions that are soft and slightly acidic (ph 6.6-7.0) to very hard and alkaline (ph 7.0-8.4 and above). Very adaptable shrimp. Is most productive and does best in soft to medium hard water with a ph in the alkaline range. Might not reproduce at all in water that...

Read this: http://www.petshrimp.com/discussions/viewtopic.php?t=1306&highlight=sodium+hydroxide Great thread, I have not been aware of this as I've lived in Europe where water is treated differently. However, is descibes a tank problem opposite to yours. If your RO water has enough buffer to ke...

Basically, the water coming out of the RO unit has buffers in it that are not measure in KH. The ph will not go down in the RO water like it is happening to me. Water coming out of a RO filter has no buffers at all, that is the main reason people use it. Either something is wrong with your RO filte...

Something is wrong. Water from a RO filter has pH around 7, after standing a while the pH is usually a bit lower due to contact with air and CO2 it contains.

Either I'm very wrong or it is a picture from Uwe Werners book "Garnelen, Krebse und Krabben im Süßwasseraquarium". It is indeed a Caridina gracilirostris (or Red Nose, as some like to call it).
