Re: Question about lava rock benefits

Superproofer I was thinking if you put a glass with a little water in it on or near Alexa you should be able to see if it is creating any vibration. Not sure if noise by itself would be an issue, I would think vibration would be the real concern.

One year since first fry showed up

This is an update of my 5 gallon tank that started with 30 shrimp. It took 1 year and 7 months before I saw my first floaters on August 23, 2019. Since that time there has always been only one female berried at a time so it made it easy to keep track of the number of new fry. As of this past August ...

Re: New tank started today - tank #2

Aug10 update. There are now 10 shrimp in the tank, added 8 more. The walls and lava rocks are pretty much covered in algae and the shrimp are loving it! Having the tank a couple feet from a large South facing window really got the algae growing. If everything stays the same with the algae I don’t th...

Re: New tank started today - tank #2

July 12-added two female shrimp to the tank today. Only been one week cycling but the water is crystal clear and I added some algae from the large tank. I’ll wait a couple days and see how they make out and then add at least 8 more. There is no light on the tank but it is near a large window and get...

Ok, thanks. I thought it might have something to do with using an iPad to post.

Re: New tank started today - tank #2

Varanus thanks for the reply. I was going to leave that comment out about the Marimo ball but it has been in the older tank for a year and a half now and so far so good. It is actually a little tiny ball that I separated from a bigger ball. It is only about the size of this emoji - :!:. I figured ev...

New tank started today - tank #2

7/5/20-started to cycle a new 1 gal tank. One gallon of distilled water with 1/4 cup of salt. The hydrometer reading is 1.012 (same as the 5 gal tank). Added a few pieces of floating algae, a piece of aragonite substrate green with algae, and one tiny Marimo ball from the large tank. The Marimo has ...

Re: And away we go!

The tank, the light, the substrate, and the rock all look great. The shrimp will have a very nice home and good luck on your new adventure.

Petshrimp Mossballs

Can anyone who is familiar with the mossballs from this site give any insight into growing them? Is there any information/articles about these plants on this site? How much light do they take? Propagation? Has anyone split them to create new mossballs? I know they are supposed to be slow growing and...

Re: Supershrimp mossball reproduction

I know this is an older post but are there any new lessons learned or info about these mossballs? I just received mine the other day and was wondering how long they took before you saw budding/reproduction? Anything I need to know about growing them successfully?

Re: New babies

DCH48 I was reading my notes about the fry that I’ve had in my tank previously and they normally turned from floaters to morphing into tiny juveniles in about 3 to 4 weeks. Each day a couple more would disappear and then I would see a few very tiny shrimp walking on the glass, etc. I would see them ...

Re: New babies

I wonder if they don’t make it or if you are only seeing a few at any one time. I originally had 33 shrimp and I would only see about a third at any time. The only time I saw all of them was when I fed them. Now that the tank is mature with lots of algae I don’t get to see all the shrimp even when f...

Re: New babies

Well I think I got the final count for this female. She had 24 babies! I didn’t see her today to verify they are all released but the other day there was only a couple left so I’m thinking this is it for her. She did a great job for having that many fry. This was the fifth female to berry in this 5 ...

Re: New babies

Vorteil your tanks are amazing! I’m very jealous of all the greenery and the number of babies you have. Holly, yeah don’t worry it will happen. The cooler the temps the longer it takes. Update: there are 8 floaters in total tonight and I saw the mother and she still has about 14 more babies hanging ...
