"Planted" supershrimp tank

Post by Stalker »

Hello.

I finaly found a french breeder of Opae Ula, so i'm setting up my tank.

I want it to be planted so I bought a portion of Caloglossa beccari, a red algae glowing in mangroves and tolerating all kinds of salinity. I also put some pieces of marimo balls, I hope they will survive or transform into small ball like Mustafa's (ho wait... I dont mean that). Two other vegetable are growing in the tank: round pellia and epiphyte Cladophora, but I dont think they will survive the long shot. For the moment the tank is shrimpless and freshwater, I will salt it slowly and then bye shrimps. I also put several MTS and some Mieniplotia scabra. When the tank will be brackish, I will introduce other algae, may be Chaetomorpha and something called Dichtya in the french reef hobby. Both are growing in my friend's opae-ula tank.

What's the salinity in your tank? Also, depending on the species the amphipods/isopods may actually bother the shrimp by climbing all over them. Let us know how it goes though. (And I doubt you actually found a french "breeder" as opposed to imported shrimp, but that's a different matter altogether).

It's a french hobbyist with an old and full of shrimps tank, no import only home breeding. Starfish and amphipods died during aclimatation. The tank is still in salting.

My conductimeter take time to measure salt water conductivity, wich is 7.69mS/cm. Converted in density I have 1.003 or 4ppt at the moment.

Your Salinity seems a bit low. I aim for 1.010.

At the beginning I introduced some sediments from my sea monkey's tank. Now I see 2 or 3 nauplii swiming.
