Fresh Water to Salt Water (Need to Re-Cycle ?)

Post by LiquidBee »

Got a quick question for you all knowledgeable people.

If I were to cycle a fresh water tank, is it possible for me to
Turn it into a salt water tank and not kill the Beneficial Bacteria’s ?

Or will I need to Cycle the tank again ?

I assume you're asking this because you want to move your H. rubra to a bigger tank (to give this thread the shrimp connection ;)).

You can go ahead and add the salt. The bacteria are very adaptable and will stay alive (and thrive) at almost any salinity that still supports fish and invertebrates. No need to cycle again.

Wow Mustafa, not only are you a shrimp expert, you also have telepathic abilities.

Yes, I'm thinking about getting another tank for my little Opae Shrimps... something in the neighborhood of 55 Gallons....

Just love these little guys cuz I can put in 2% effort and still have them thriving.

Thanks for the answer....now all I need to look for is the Arcylic tank.

Sounds like you should write an article on what your 2% is. Getting the other 98% wrong can be a disaster. I'll be waiting!

Honestly, this info is really important if we are going to preserve this species. Just a few more hotels & they will all be gone in the wild.
