So far I see two RCS babies! Awwwww, these are my first babies of anything ever in my life - and I'm an old lady! I'm so psyched!

Just keep doing what you are doing! Don't change because of the babies. You soon have plenty more!

Thanks everyone! I don't want too many tho cause my tank is so small. Any way to control how quickly they breed? Lower water temps maybe?

wendy, I don't remember how small your tank is, but your shrimp will compete for food. As long as there is a limited supply of food, competition should keep the population in check.

You can keep a surprisingly high number of individuals in a small tank, especially if you keep your water quality very high.

Congrats on the new babies! I've found that if I can see two of them, that means that there are at least 20 I cannot see..

Hi wendyjo, I also have babies :-D ! My RCS's eggs have hatched again. I never get tired of seeing the tank full of tiny little shrimp after a day of hatching, it is a joy :D !

Hi Wendy, are those the shrimp I sold you?

To keep them from breeding, try to lower the temp to 68-70F.

Or add a platy, they like to eat everything small but won't harm adult shrimp.

Not good ideas. Lower temperatures make shrimp less active and the platy *can* harass the shrimp, too, so that they hide more than run around. I wouldn't chance it.

Feeding less is the way to go.

Yes bulrush, the babies are from the females you sent me :) I don't have room to put a fish in there tho to keep the population under control. I guess if I have to I can scoop some out and put them in with the betta.

Even 30 shrimp in a 5 gallon isn't too many, so don't worry, just keep the water clean. Cut back to a small pinch of food every other day once the shrimps are juvie age and the eggs will stop comming. By then you can get a bigger tank.
