Descriptions of four new species of Caridina from China

Post by bochr »

This looks very interesting:

Descriptions of four new species of Caridina (Decapoda: Atyidae) from China
LIQING WANG, XIANGQIU LIANG & FAN LI

"Four new species, Caridina maculata sp. nov., C. venusta sp. nov.,C. tumida sp. nov. and C. meridionalis sp. nov. are described from Guangdong Province, China. Caridina maculata sp. nov. and C. venusta sp. nov. are popular in the commercial pet markets as ornamental shrimp."

"Two of the four new species described herein, Caridina maculata sp. nov. and C. venusta sp. nov. were found in commercial markets. They have also been exported to Japan and Singapore, with the trade name of “bee shrimp” (Figs. 2, 4)."

Hi!
Anyone who have access to the full text?
Shure ;-)

Has the Bee Shrimp been described as two different species?
Not really what we (in Europe) called bee shrimp. The paper is dealing with species known as "Bumblebee shrimp" or "new bee II" in the aquarium trade. This shrimp are separated in 3 different species. (As we soggest some time ago comparing specimen from Mustafa with other strains of "Bumblebees" from Germany).
But unfortunatly this paper has first to be discussed bei other taxonomist. Maybe not all 4 new species will be accepted as valid species during further work.

Cheers

Hi Werner

Thank you for the clarification.
Hopefully you or someone else with access to scientific papers, will share it with the rest of us, when the taxonomist has something more to say :)
