Shrimp from Hawaii, Please help ID

Post by Neonshrimp »

Hi all,

A friend's wife brought back these shrimp from Hawaii. She bought them from a local shop and hoped he would like them. Could you please help with a positive ID of the shrimp. After calling the shop, they said these were "freshwater feeder shrimp". Here are a few pictures, please let me know what you think. Thanks for looking.

There is no "native" habitat of this pecies on Hawai. Theese shrimp were introduced to the rivers of this islands by aquarists!

So they were first spotted in 1991. That is interesting, thanks for the article.

they have been around much longer than the 90's. they have been sold as feeders since the early 80's at least. i still have a colony at my parents house from 1984. they are an invasive species here. Westwood, you can get them at any LFS in Hawaii as feeders.

These are not the red hawaiians (Halocaridina rubra). They are wild tye Cherry shrimp (Neocaridina denticulata sinensis ) and they were bought from a local shop as dhavoc mentioned.
