Hi I am a new to the forum so I might as well start with a newbie question. I have some shrimp that were identified as Malaya but I understand they are constantly misidentified
I suspect they might be white backed ? They range in colour yellow green and red and change from very pale to very dark and are 3.5 to 4 cm

For what it is worth, I saw your posting, but I do not know the answer, so I did not reply. I can tell you some species that I think they're not, but that doesn't help you out much. I think this forum is just a little lower trafficked than some other forums that are out there. I'm sure someone who is better at ID-ing shrimp than I am will come along eventually.
Re: Newbie
The first shrimp above are hard to figure out as there are a number of species that look like that. Some have large eggs with direct development and some very small eggs with multiple larval stages. Most of them have not been scientifically described and hence most of them don't even have a common name yet.
The second shrimp could be M. lanchesteri or M. lamarrei depending on the rostrum, which is hard to recognize on this picture. They look quite similar but M. lamarrei has a longer rostrum among other things.
