Sri Lanka Dwarf Shrimp - Size

Post by mihai »

Hello,

I have few Sri Lanka Dwarf Shrimp bought 2 months ago from a dealer from my city ( Bucharest ), but everywere i look at the description of these tipe of shrimps , at the size is wirtten 2,5-3 cm.
My dilemma is that 2 of them including a female with eggs , have more than 4 cm in lenght, and i can`t find an explanation for this. If anyone can give a hint it will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much.

The Shrimp Pictured are not Sri Lanka Dwarf Shrimp.
Caridina simoni simoni
http://www.petshrimp.com/Csimoni.php.

If I am not mistaken,
They are a Macro. Species and look very similar to Macrobrachium lanchesteri

It's a Macrobrachium lanchesteri for sure. Unfortunately, when people (like the guy who sold the above shrimp) use my website (or some websites in Germany where this species may be listed) to identify shrimp that they are selling, they misidentify and just claim that have that shrimp instead of saying that they are not sure and it looks like C. simoni to them. In any case, I'd better put up the species description for Macrobrachium lanchesteri so people can identify their M. lanchesteri. There is really not much information about this shrimp out there.

That is the sad thing about Stores that sell Fish & Shrimp.
There is a lot of Mis-Information given to buyers.

A lot of the time, the employees of the Store use the Names that are given by the Wholesaler or Importer.

Good Luck with the breeding attempt.
