Opae

Post by Jungle mermaid »

Is there any fish or other thing I can put in with my opae to eat mosquitoes larvae? That of course will not eat my opae. I had an indoor tank with opae and hiiwai in the past, but never had a mosquito problem. I live in a very wet area now and mosquitoes are prevalent. Any ideas?

Not that I've known of. If its for prevention of mosquito larvae I suggest you use those very light see through curtain material like the pic below.
Just wrap it at the tank top with elastic string or rubber band.

Agreed with Mrs T. Just put a covering on it. You can just seal it so things don't get in. My tank has a cover with some openings I just covered them up.

You could also probably (not sure if would be safe for the shrimp) use a small piece of a pool dunk or better yet get the granules seeded with the bacteria - these products have a bacteria on them that kills mosquito larvae.
