PSA: The snails come out at night

Post by Super Jess »

This post is a PSA for any newbies who are wondering if the snails you bought from Mustafa are still alive and in your tank. I started with 10 of Mustafa's snails and those suckers are HARDY. They've reproduced well, but I still only see a few at a time--during the day. At night, it's a different story!

If you want to check on your snail population, the best time is after dark. They'll come up out of the substrate and party all night until daybreak :-D

Cool pics! Look at those guys going for the biofilm on top. My biofilm layer has been shrinking towards the center and I wonder if that's due to the snails feasting on it at night.

Yep! They are mostly nocturnal! Only when the population is really large do you start seeing lots of them during the day. Thanks for the pic!
