Lava rock help

I’m making my first tank and this was the only lava rock I could find, but now wondering if it’s too big? There’s a little area underneath where they can hide but it’s pretty small. Should I drill some holes in it or something or just get something else entirely?

I prefer a pile of smaller lava rocks.

I'd break that up... Like a lot. Then you can either aquascape it or just gently drop it in and let it fall naturally. This give more crevasses to hide in and looks more natural.
