I had the pantyhose but it collected so much junk so quick I switched to a foam piece over my intake. I'd be worried about baby shrimp with the pantyhose... even if they don't get through it they might get stuck to it because there's more water flow then with a sponge.

Just imagine all that gunk your saving from accumulating in your filter bed when your constantly cleaning it ~_^ lol
