Hello - new to forum here and I have a question...
In a freshwater fish / shrimp / live plantcommunity tank, is there a safe and effective Ich treatment available commercially? It isn't feasible to isolate either the fish or the shrimp, as they are in a LARGE, heavily planted tank.
I have read prior posts on the subject mentioning "Quick Cure", but I am not able to locate specific product information on it to determine it's safety in a planted tank.
Any advice or information would be appreciated!
Thanks.

malachite green
Malachite green will kill shrimp and riccia, so all plants are not safe. I had a worm infestation in some of my tanks for I took some infested plants and a few ghost shrimp and put them in a tanks with the recommended dosage of malachite green. It killed the worms, the shrimp and the riccia.
Malachite is a soluable copper carbonate. Not good for lots of things, including people. Another hobby of mine is lapidary work (carving stone & faciting gemstones). Malachite is one of the stones that they warn us about as inhaling the particles can make you very sick.

"Malachite green" is not malachite and hence does not contain any copper. Malachite green is a dye named after malachite because people thought it had the same color as the mineral.
Having said that, the malachite green concentration in quick cure definitely does not kill shrimp. I've tried it out several times. However, quick cure did cause my najas guadalupensis in the same treated tank to melt away over a few days. I do not know if it was the malachite green or the formalin. I did use it for six days straight however. In any case, quick cure is completely shrimp safe in my experience.

Shrimp Safe Ich Treatment
Thanks for the clarification on Malachite Green. I will see if I can find some Quick Cure at one of our LFS's, failing that, I will order some.
I don't have any najas guadalupensis in my tank, so I should be safe. I have used Jungle's Ich Guard II in this same tank several years ago (pre-shrimp) and my plants had no ill effects. Has any one ever used this medication with shrimp, and if so, what were the results?
Thanks much!
