indian zebra shrimp

Post by badflash »

I've got 6 of these shrimp and I'm wondering if they are similar in sexing to the Red Cherry Shrimp. I have 2 larger ones that are pretty bright purple with stripes and 4 smaller with little color. Anyone know if the little light ones are males and the bigger dark ones female? I'm sure they will figure it out when the time comes.

Try to post some pictures. The females are the colorful, big ones. Young males still have nice stripes which tend to fade away in most males with age, so they almost look colorless. I will put up a species description for these shrimp soon. I've had these guys for over half a year now and trying to build up a breeding population.

I got my zebras when I was still in my learning phase. I killed them all. I feel bad about how many of my shrimp paid the price for me being a slow learner.

BTW- Congrats!

Thank You
I already am a Shrimp Nut, I just do not have the post to prove It.

Sorry about the Zebras.

As long as we can learn from our mistakes.

And I do not want to start listing them.
It would take way to long.

10 Indian zebra shrimps arrived today,

I have to say I was a bit disappointed, although all arrived in good health, they are more of an Indian mix and match. The majority look as though they are probably Indian white banded shrimp. These vary in colour from green to bluish to orange. Only two seem to have the zebra stripes I was expecting and those only have grey stripes. I knew I should have ordered more

Within half an hour of entering their new home all had congregated on the sponge filter.........little arms going like mad

Anyway with a bit of luck I have gained at least one new species even if its not the one I intended.

If I have Indian zebra's and white bands will they cross?

Number one zebra, you can tell by the filter sponge how tiny it is.

On closer inspection I actuall have three, this is the largest, the other two are smaller and with less colour.. Please let there be a pair 8)

Hi JK, thank you for sharing what happened to you with us and for the picture of your new shrimp :D I think you told us the bands were grey, and it is neat how it runs down most of the body. Could you please post pictures of your other new shrimp also? You might want to wait until they have had time to adjust to their new home  .
