Yes I am 100% sure they are freshwater. They live 100s of kilometres away from the nearest saltwater, in dried up creek beds that flood annually with the wet season rains.

As for the species, I can only get down to the genus which is Austrothelphusa/Holthuisana. I'm not sure what they have finally been classified as. It is one of those two.

Freshwater land crabs, Holthuisana spp. (family Sundathelphusidae), is common in and around freshwater streams, ponds and swamps. It burrows into the ground or stream banks.
