Don't feed unless completely barren of algae?

Hello,
I recently acquired 15 cherry shrimp for my work tank (10 gallon planted with anubias lightly). It already had 3 ghost shrimp. The tank has visible algae on all walls and I have been sparingly feeding flake and ground up algae wafers 1-2 times a week. I'm just wondering if I should cut out the feedings until no algae is seen on the walls of the tank, or whether there is some forms of algae that are just not eaten by the shrimp?
I'd prefer to not feed at all for water quality issues (I still do 25-50% water changes once per week which is done using a gravel vac (VERY carefully) to suck up all the poo). I have a bare-bottom tank to limit the buildup of waste and an oversized Aquaclear20 HOB filter with a sponge intake for filtration duties.
