Starting my first tank and I have a bunch of questions!

Post by chudynasty »

Hi all so I just started my tank a couple weeks ago. Its a fluval 6 gal edge and I set the salinity to 1.014 SG.
I fishless cycled my tank by dropping some pellets in there.
Now im wondering if my tank is really ready for shrimps since I saw on this website that once we see algae growing in our tank that it is ready for shrimp. My tank has grown some green algae of the glass. I also just dropped two MTS and two marimo moss balls in there and they seem to be doing fine.

I did a reading on my water and it seems that there is no ammonia or nitrite and some nitrate. If it is indeed cycled and I get my shrimp, should I do a water change before they arrive?

Sounds ready to me. And, no, don't change anything. Good luck!

Did you do readings on the plants?

Your tank seems great and you should just drop your shrimp in.

Overall Marimo balls are not recommended because they are alive and can die and slowly release ammonia into your tank which can make your water toxic. Most plants do not do well in brackish conditions, and the users here who keep them run into many problems. You don’t want anything live in your water (wood/live sand).

Good luck!
