I believe it is sex attractant pheremone secreted by ready females stimulating the males to swim. Whenever I come home and see my males zipping and gliding around the tank, there is almost always a fresh molt by one of my larger breeding females that seems to have stimulated it. My females rarely je...

Idea For Surviving Winter Power Outages
I was talking to a friend up north yesterday who was going to spend the night with family because her power was out and the house cold and dark. This brought a chill to my bones as I thought about what would happen to my tanks in this event - I do not have a generator. Then the idea hit me. If heat ...

Murder Most Foul At Walmart
Though I'd never think of buying any livestock at Walmart, Fish Geek that I am I always look at the aquarium aisle anyway. Last night the carnage there was enough to just about make you sick. In every tank there were hordes of dead fish, some eels, and yes in one tank shrimp as well. While I realize...

RE: Possible Source Of The Term Zoe
Maybe it is shorthand/slang for 'zoo plankton' - the following definition of which I found online: Zooplankton are tiny animals that drift around at the mercy of the currents. They are primary consumers, meaning that they eat primary producers. All sorts of animals make up zooplankton, from the larv...

Baby Fish Are 'Fry' ........ Baby Goats Are 'Kids'......
Are newborn shrimp that do not go through a larval stage in the tank - such as my RCS - actually 'Shrimplets' ??
Even though I use this term and think it is kinda neat, I'm just wondering if there is some other more widely accepted term out there for our shrimplets.

Or you could use
a swatch from a very sheer nylon stocking rubberbanded over the filter inlet. If that is still too 'porous' then you can fold it double and a shrimplet would have to be very tiny indeed to get through. It does work with very small anabantoid fry.

Great Suggestions
Thanx for the great suggestions. Turns out I had at hand a couple feet of rigid tubing and of course lots of airline tubing so I tried out Erie's suggestion and it worked perfectly in my 10 gallon RCS tank.

A Note To Fellow Newbies On This Forum
This morning I started to post a new topic asking wether or not the RCS gave birth to live young or laid their eggs in the tank. Before I did that though, I tried a forum search on the topic "Live Birth". Wow! Not only did I find a post directly answering my question, but I ended up spendi...

Siphon Cleaning A RCS Tank
Hi All, Great site and forum! I'm an experienced fishkeeper and a novice shrimpkeeper who appreciates all the great info here. In order to keep fish healthy, we do periodic water changes and siphon waste and organic debris from the bottom of the tank. As I begin to establish my ecosystem with RCS an...
