Ok, here are some new pics of mediocre quality, but maybe they can answer the question about what these guys are. They're definitely reproducing in my tank because i'm up to ten or so of these guys from the original three, and i saw a berried female yesterday (but alas, did not get pics). http://i12...

Ahhh...others (non-shrimp people) just won't understand. In any case, it's a great idea, *we* (i.e. shrimp hobbyists) all know it and that should be enough. ;) Our whole hobby is so weird/strange to many outsiders that it's not worth it to bother explaining what a sponge in a tank is for. No kiddin...

...judging from Janthina's descriptions, only the Neocaridina sp. seem to have reproduced. Maybe there was no male for the Indian shrimp to fertilize her eggs. Yes, i believe this to be the case, i just didn't want to contradict anyone. Whatever species of shrimp this is in my tank, they're produci...

I now have a growing flock/covey/school/herd of these little guys. However, all offspring resemble the second and third photo, with the thin black striations on their sides. I'm keeping these guys in moderately hard, alkaline water and they seem happy. They're not as colourful as my other shrimp but...

Thank you for your replies. I think i'm going to try one of these products plus a small amount of crushed coral and see how that works. I'll be monitoring with pH and TDS probes as well as occasionally checking results against chemical test kits to assuage my paranoia. Too bad i left all the test ki...

The owner of the lfs does mostly reef tanks, and since speaking with him i've asked among the few other non-newbie aquarists i could find...all have confirmed that the city water occasionally (and randomly) contains enough copper to cause problems for corals and inverts. I also discovered that PetCo...

Shrimp and R/O water...need advice!
I just moved to a city with tapwater even harder and more alkaline than the last place i lived. This didn't bother me, as i don't keep any softer-water shrimp...didn't bother me until today, that is, when i finally found a fish store and asked the owner what he thought of the local municipal water s...

"Black shrimp"...possibly Neocaridina sp. 'blue'?
I recently found some shrimp at a LFS that were shipped in with an Asian order and probably wild-caught, labeled 'Black algae-eating shrimp'. Most of them are juveniles but i got some pics of the two larger specimens. Any ideas as to what they might be? Neocaridina sp. 'blue' is my first guess but i...

Re: Digital Camera: Taking shrimp Photos
What settings are most people using to snap their aquarium shots? I shoot my tanks and their inhabitants with a Canon 20D and a Sigma 105 f/2.8 1:1 macro, Sigma 180 f/3.5 1:1 macro, and am currently playing around with my Canon 300 f/4.0 L and some extension tubes. Always mounted on a tripod and ba...

I know i'm new on this forum, but i'm going to jump in and give some opinions, and hope i'm not stepping on anyone's toes. I was a professional wildlife photographer and cinematographer for several years and am a huge fan of Canon...their 'L' series lens are fantastic. However, when i need to save m...

for collecting most american species all you need is a fishing license, and if anyone asks, you're collecting them for bait True, for most U.S. species this will suffice. Once you step off U.S. soil though, you'll want a collection permit. Getting one may entail simple paperwork; more often, they'r...
