Your question made me think of one too, regarding egg color. I've seen several different colors of eggs among both cherry shrimp and N. zhangjiajiensis females. Do different-colored saddles produce eggs the same color, or is the color of the saddle and/or the eggs determined by stage of development...

What I am doing right now is using small clay pots and cutting them in half. Looks cool and my inverts love them. Java Moss will root to it too. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c70/badflash/stuff/P4230002.jpg I have a tile saw and it takes about 30 seconds a pot. The pots cost about 25 cents each...

Hello, I saw something like this on a youtube video with crystal reds. I'd love to do something similar, but haven't been able to figure out what type, or where to get, the mesh yet. Several types out there, but some that I wouldn't want to put in a shrimp tank because of either lead or copper. Any...

Nice pictures and shrimp :) I myself have had Ghost Shrimp (still do but I hardly ever see them) and they are really interesting funny shrimp. They have a lot of personality, I just wish they had more color and were as "friendly" as the RCS. I put them in my turtles tank and I am so surpri...

I don't know how true this is, but IME the reddest RCS in my tank have been those saddled and especially the one that's been berried twice (have had this tank since January so results may vary). This berried female got darker red than all the other shrimp (including the other females) and also devel...

Hermit Crabs are so cool, a couple of weeks ago I saw my first LIVE ones and they look like giant Triops.

Yeah I have these guys all over my tank as well as some hydra and Nematodes, lol I have so many things in that RCS tank ... I think they gradually go away if you stop feeding for a while, but I don't think you can really rid the tank of them completely without starting over. Really good reference: h...

Welcome dragonmoon, and congratulations on stumbling across the best hobby ever inverts! Specifically shrimp :D Ghost Shrimp are pretty cool to watch, but RCS look nicer, breed easier, and are less aggressive (yeah some Ghost Shrimp are known to be a bit mean and may even eat some baby RCS). I have ...

Yeah, unless, you isolate a shrimp or somehow "mark" them you won't be able to know which one died when and how long they lived etc. Unless of course, if you keep them as all females or all males ;)

Indeed congratulations, these guys only breed if the conditions are just right, hence their price (otherwise RCS wouldn't be so cheap  ). You can clearly see the eggs in that picture though ;)
