They are still in larval form, but I am nearing the 20 day mark, so I imagine a morph is coming up very soon. I will feel a lot better once I get them into freshwater. Then they will be just like raising cherry shrimp. I'll try to get some pics posted. I did take a pic of my little breeder tanks so ...

No, my greenwater culture is in the saltwater tank. I only have 2 tanks. The first one is where the mother goes when I am waiting for her to hatch. The second one is the saltwater tank that has a greenwater culture and where the babies go as soon as they hatch. Just throw in a drop of Kent Grow and ...

I have a greenwater culture going in the tank that they are in. I started it in a window with some ferts and direct sunlight. Now my 24/7 lighting keeps the culture going. I just stir up the green algae that has settled onto the bottom and let it float around the tank for them to eat. I also have be...

Well, my second female amano has released her eggs. Again, while it seemed like she was carrying a million eggs, there were far too few babies that ended up swimming around the breeder tank. I am guessing that I only have about 2 dozen or so that I caught and put in the rearing tank. This was the fi...

I ordered 10 cherry shrimp about 3 weeks ago and there were 6 babies in the bag by the time they showed up on my doorstep. After 3 weeks, I already have about 2 dozen babies running around my desktop tanks. I can't say that I'm upset about it, either. :)

Nano tanks follow the same rules as a normal planted tank. Here are my 2 nanos. I keep shrimp in both of them. Amano shrimp in one and cherry and indian algae shrimp in the other. http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=625 http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/attachment.php?attac...

Don't forget that many pet stores and chains also sell pangasius catfish and certain types of knife fish that reach over 3 feet long. They also sell fish injected with dyes and treated with hormones. Why do they do that? Because there are enough stupid people out there to keep buying those fish. As ...

We already do a little shrimp trading here and there. I probably can't say where I usually go in addition to here, but if you have shrimp you want to trade, just post. You will likely find someone else that is willing to trade a different kind for what you have. If I ever am successful breeding aman...

Yeah, I think they said that anything less than 30 PPT will give you something like 97% shrimp loss. I keep a lid on my breeder tank and anytime I add water by sucking out the larvae from freshwater, I keep close tabs on the specific gravity to make sure it doesn't change too much. I found a new tab...

Yeah, those do not sound like the garden variety of ghost shrimp. I have a ton of ghost shrimp and none of them have taken on unexpected colors. Try identifying them a little better before you sell any. A picture would be work a thousand words here. :)

There is at least a noticeable difference between green or cherry shrimp babies and amano shrimp babies that I would think would apply to post-larvae amanos. The amano larvae are noticeably absent the walking legs and seem to remain suspended in the water or just hover near the bottom. The non larva...

If I remember right, they morph into postlarvae at around 20 to 30 days or so. This means you would have had to keep them alive for around a month before you would see them take on their adult shape. I read that the best thing to do is start sucking them out with a turkey baster and putting them in ...

Yeah, there are still many possibilities that I haven't quite narrowed it down to yet. Food is a possibility as well as light. It could be insufficient food, or not quite the right food. The light might be what keeps them from congregating in one corner and repeatedly smacking themselves into each o...
