Thank you. That's what I needed to know. In light of all the info I've gotten here, I think I'll hold off on pursuing shrimp until I can set up a seperate tank just for them.

Does anyone have good solid advice for someone like me, who has not yet entered the digital age? I have two 35mm Film SLR cameras, A Canon and a Minolta Maxxum 7000. Any tips or tricks for getting good quality pics from that camera? I've tried touching the lens to the glass, and I never seem to get ...

I admit that I might have been off on the dollar value... at the time that I was keeping my reef, I was also managing a LFS, so I was able to buy everything at cost. My own cost for what I had in the tank was about $4,000.00, so I assumed a mark-up that may have been a little too extreme. I apologiz...

You may be surprised

Im going to college at northern Michigan university in the upper peninsula of MI. Small town = no aquarium club I used to live in a remote mountain town in the back-woods of New Mexico. The town only had a year round population of about 12,000 people, and it had NO colleges... It also only had one ...

Great looking fish and sounds as if he is pretty much trained to trust and recognize you :-D I can see that your priority is George, so his needs should be considered first in all planning of your tank setup. I hope a solution or alternative pops up in the future and you are able to have the best o...

Re: "Black shrimp"...possibly Neocaridina sp. 'blu

I recently found some shrimp at a LFS that were shipped in with an Asian order and probably wild-caught, labeled 'Black algae-eating shrimp'. Most of them are juveniles but i got some pics of the two larger specimens. Any ideas as to what they might be? Neocaridina sp. 'blue' is my first guess but ...

I believe it is your plant that caused the death of your shrimps. Sometimes the plants in your local LFS or chain pet stores (petsmart) use potassium ermanganate to kill snails or other plant pests. Or maybe your the pet store you bought the plants from were using algaecide solutions to eliminate o...

Did you rinse the Java moss before placing it in the tank at all? How about the rubbermade Container? In my experience, it is best to siphon out the water that you're removing with the water change, and use it to rinse the plants prior to adding them to a tank, especially things like balls of java m...

BlauerDrakken, I think George will eat any shrimp you get unless you get something that will try to eat him! I went looking for info on your catfish and from what I read you really cannot keep him freshwater for long. I think you should consider setting up a species only type tank for George and gi...

Need Help with a Difficult Fish/Shrimp mixing

First, a little background, so you'll understand where I'm coming from; About 2.5 years ago, my Air Conditioner (in my house) went out in the middle of an Arizona August. It was not fixed for 3 days, and my 100 gallon living reef tank had no chiller. Long story short, after 3 days of 80+ degree wate...
