Although I have been keeping dwarf cajun crays going in only a 4.5 gallon tank I do have issues related to the lack of space and limitations for hiding places for their young. I will feel better after I get them going in a 20L. It is much harder to maintain the water quality in such small tanks but ...

I know that after receiiving two overpriced orders of dead and dying shrimp I retrenched from the shrimp hobby and then I found Mustafa's store, ordered, they all arrived alive and then my tanks become filled with hundreds of shrimp I regained my interest in them. I have since tried bee shrimp but d...

Larry, It sounds like your new shrimp are doing great. They are far more active than Amanos if youv'e kept those before to compare. They really behave a lot like a miniature black ghosts in the sense that they are active in all three orthagonal directions. They hardly have a "top." Any pos...

Hi Larry, We have had some contact from the planetcatfish and I have seen some of your innovative methods and descriptions of your systems. I am sure your experience with shrimp will be a positive one. The shrimp readily feed on the diatoms. They are much easier to keep and breed than your Hypancist...

Oaks are relatively uncommon where I live and I have enough shrimp and blackwater fishes that I can afford to try some Black Walnut leaves out to see if it causes any untoward results. I'll be doing so and should it prove safe or not, I'll post the results. I have two large trees of it so it won't b...

I completely understand your skepticism. The instance where one young shrimp appeared in a tank containing a single pair of Amanos and other fish present in this community tank some 10 months after their introductions left me with little else to conclude. It would have had to survive the wrong envir...

I like your idea with the bamboo. Not only does it provide shelter, but as it breaks down it will act like leaves and provide microfood and nitrate removal. Exactly so. It takes time but not much for the bamboo to soften as it decays. I also like the appearance of it in a planted aquariums as caves...

It doesn't matter for these guys. The kkey is lots of hiding places for the babies (unsubstantiated observation). Leaves gives shelter as does pea gravel and loads of plants. I over feed to prevent canabalism. I compensate with snails. I totally agree based on my experience with these so far. I hav...

I have researched the normal life cycle of the Amano shrimp and am aware of their larvae need for at least a period of time in an euryhayline enviroment to survive and under go metamorphosis but I also have seen at least 3 new Amano shrimp juveniles appear from a long standing completely freshwater ...

I have been breeding ornamental shrimp for about three years now and it did not take long to realized they have a strong affinity for wood substrates. I suspect there are many reasons for their preference for drift or waterlogged wood. 1. Shrimps have a stong instinct to have a firm feet holds and w...

An easy way to acheive your target water coditions is to dilute your tapwater with RO water to reduce the buffering capacity just enough that the pH may be lowered by peat filtration or decaying leaf litter. This a much more natural way to modify your water without the need to buy additives. If you ...

I believe that many different hardwood tree leaves will work, not just the Oaks. Beech, Aspen. Maple and Walnut should all be safe as long as the leaves have been dried out completely before waterlogging them for a layer of liter that will help supply food and cover as well as simulating many tropic...
