I am sorry to hear that your shrimp died. I have seen this behavior. I am sad to say that your shrimp that died, was dying anyway. My oldest female had been "acting funny" for a few days when one of the younger females grabbed her and started munching. After a few seconds, the other femal...

Shrimp are opportunistic hunters. If a weak/sick/vulnerable meal presents itself they will hunt it down, if they can. Have plenty of nooks for shrimp to hide in after molting. Overpopulation is another cause for such aggresive behaviour. I see, my tank is kind of crouded ( around 28 GS ) and has fe...

Well, sadly the shrimp died due to its injuries. The tail was no longer functioning so it could not get up, only lay down on its side. :(

Shrimp Cannibalism

I know Shrimp are carnivores and often eat their own young, but do they commonly eat another shrimp their size? Between the past two days, 1 specific Ghost Shrimp molted. Yesterday the tail, today the head. The GS that molted cannot swim correctly and often runs into objects and runs into the gravel...

It seems as if the shell disappeared. I tried to find it with a net, but did not find anything. Would the Ghost Shrimp eat it?

Molting

Do shrimps commonly molt parts of the body rather than the whole at once? I have Ghost Shrimp in a newly set up 10g. It appears that a shrimp has just molted and part of the back just landed into the gravel. There are no dead shrimp in site. Should I leave the shell in the tank or take it out?

Hey cj, I believe ghost shrimp will live with anything that isnt bigger than itself and goldfish. Guppies can live with ghost shrimp.

By the way, do you happen to know how to tell if one ghost shrimp is female or male by looking at it?
