Scientific papers naming Sulawesi shrimp?
Greetings, It's been a while, health and life have been an adventure. :) I was recently researching more shrimp, as my addiction requires, and I came across a Taiwan site that has images of obvious Sulawesi species, but with Macrobrachium (actually Macrobracium sp.), as the part of their name. I hav...

Re: need help with leaves formy shrimps
I don't know if this is related, but a friend of mine had a colony of RCS going for a year or so. He wanted to add more material for plant matter to grow in, so he purchased some 'wood'. He boiled it and put it in the tank. After a few weeks he noticed that shrimp were slowly dieing off. Water chang...

Re: Pearl Shrimp
Interesting, because I base their food supply on how much they eat in a 30 minute period. They get fed every other day, and don't 'attack' their food, as other species do, they act satiated.

Great! I hope that more people get interested in breeding these types of shrimp. Once I have anything to report, I'll be sharing my journey here. Still waiting for my shrimp to get in the mood. Perhaps some Berry White will help.

Re: Pearl Shrimp
Oh, and I forgot to say, the young are amazingly small, and difficult to spot. That makes it difficult to estimate population counts.

Re: Pearl Shrimp
My M. kulsiense colony is in a 29g tank. They appear to be reproducing well, albeit slowly. They definitely don't reproduce as quickly as Red Claw shrimp. From my observations, the young take about four+ months to become sexually mature, and I think that the mature females don't become fertile for s...

Re: First Crayfish - Need Some Advice
Crayfish often get fish while they sleep. I feed my Cherax three times a week. You'll have to figure out how much he/she needs. If the food you drop in is quickly eaten, add a bit more the next feeding. My 9" Cherax quadricarinatus eats two full algae wafers and a few shrimp pellets per feeding...

A dwarf species is more likely to leave fish alone. I'm not as familiar with dwarf crays as I am with non dwarf species, so I can't say for sure.

I highly recommend reading the articles linked on the main petshrimp.com page. Also use the handy search tool for tips about alder cones, and filtration.

The problem with leaves; you can't accurately dose the water, and you can't be sure of what other chemicals you may be introducing into your tank.

Re: Bamboo Shrimps
The microbial food that the shrimp eat mainly comes from the water column, I can't say for sure if it's the same microbes that keep the tank cycled. Mine sometimes eat small bits of fish food, but not often. The tank my bamboo shrimp live in has a HOB filter, and a power head that I stuck onto the t...

Red Claws are fun. I've had them for a while now. I have one tank where I'm trying to teach the alpha male some tricks. He eats from my hand, without any problems. I think I've uploaded some pictures of mine to the user gallery here.

If you need to clean the gravel, try using a turkey baster to clean up the problem areas.

Re: Bamboo Shrimps
Fanning is actually a good sign. That means that they're able to get food from the water column. My bamboo shrimp spend 80-90% of the time fanning, 10-20% scavenging around. You might want to put a power head in the tank, just to create a stronger current to provide a fine dining establishment for f...
