Re: Malaya Larvae

If the little critter looks strange it is because it was actually on the glass and that is a bottom view  3 more are currently berried so there will be quite a population explosion soon...

It is definitely cool.

Re: Malaya Larvae

Today we have legs on the young Malaya and they are moving around a bit as well....

Glass has bio-film inside so a clear photo wouldn't happen, but you can just make out the legs.

Re: Malaya Larvae

Thanks All, I think I got very lucky and got up today just after the young were hatched so I got to see a few. They are all out of site now and I guess I won't have much to report until I see shrimplets.... It has been really neat raising these Malaya Shrimp from very young juveniles to adults and a...

Malaya Larvae

Hi Mustafa and All, Well day 16 was a magical day and I now have Malaya Larvae from my first berried female. There are a few floating here and there in the water current as well as a few on the sponge filter. Photos were rough to get, but I did my best. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd219/south...

Re: Greetings & Observations

Welcome aboard geo,

I like you found a wealth of knowledge here at this site...That lead to Cherry Shrimp....Months later I am caring for 8 tanks with as many different types of shrimp, so far with great success. I fear though that there is no turning back

Re: Malaya Photo...

They are kept at a temperature of 76-78 degrees F.... Mustafa lists a 17 day (give or take) time on hatching so I think soon. :D

Re: Malaya Photo...

The larva do not require any special care or feeding and will become "mini shrimp" in 3 days or so from what I have learned. I will update occasionally on how the young are progressing after birth.

Malaya Photo...

Just thought I'd share a photo of two of my 3 berried Malaya. Next week I should have young if they go according to the estimated time to carry in the varieties section. The female that has been carrying eggs for 13 days is also again saddled. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd219/southerndesert/...

The first female is now 9 days and counting... What is your experience with survival rates? This second shrimp is sure loaded and the first I would guess at around 30 to 40 eggs. I like the "let nature take it's course" procedure with the larvae and hopefully in a couple weeks I will have ...

Second Berried Malaya

I now have two berried Malaya Shrimp and this second one has many more eggs than the first. It is the golden yellow tinted female and I will try for a photo later today. So far so good Mustafa, Question...Will the abundant other life in this tank be an issue in any way with the young in their larval...

Avoiding the cleaning crew

I am just having a ball watching these Malaya Shrimp! They seem to enjoy letting the snails get right up to the food then running off a little ways  Hope I am not boring you all with this stuff, but I think these are some really neat shrimp. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd219/southerndese...

Malaya update

Things are still going quite well and now one of the smaller shrimp I thought to perhaps be a male molted and is now showing stripes. Looks like I have a total of 4 male and 4 female. Two more of the females have saddles and are close to ready to berry by the look of them. The 4th younger female wil...
