Re: Mantis Shrimp
last time i set up a marine tank a mantis came in as a hitch hiker on one of the pieces or live rock i bought.. was ne heck of a mission catching the little bugger... they are quite tough, surviving in most conditions, even a tank cycle.. but id say a good constant temp of around 25 degrees celcius,...

Re: my first go on RCS
i have also been heavily feeding them on a regular basis, seeing as they are in planted tanks... the only effects this has had was underwater jungles that need gd trimming every 2 weeks, in the past 10 months these tanks (the 100L and two 50L tanks) have produced enough plant cuttings to set up 5 4f...

Re: RCS and Seachem's Flourish
in my limited time of keeping rcs, around 8 months by now, i have found the best way to keep both good growing plants and shrimp together is to use the Diana Walstad way of setting up a planted tank... setting up the tank with a 2cm layer of organic compost and dolomitic lime, and covering it with a...

Re: african dwarf frogs and cherry shrimps
Its just sad that you guys can keep something nice like an African dwarf frog, yet it is illegal to keep it in an African country... Its like you will find more Tanganyikan Cichlids species available in America than in a country a few thousand miles away from Tanzania...

Re: brown leaves for shrimp
I started saving the leaves that i trim off my big amazon sword leaves and then dry them out till they are nice and crispy. Then i rehydrate them in a bucket full of tank water that i use to heat up my yeast co2 generator bottles for a week or so, and by then they have all fallen to the bottom of th...

Re: Curling of the body - what's this behaviour about?
my RCS usualy start doing this a while before they molt, its just to loosen up the old skin and move it from the new one.. if you are lucky you might catch one doing this and then the next moment see it pop out leaving an empty milky colored skin behind

Thanks for all the great replies, makes me real proud to have them in my tank :D @ Neonshrimp The substrate is made up of two layers, the first is a 4cm deep mix of silt clay, organic compost and dolimitic lime, and the second layers is a mix of medium and fine crushed silica, crushed coral sand and...
