I agree with Neonshrimp in that It makes sense from a biological perspective that their "curling" is probably related to keeping their exoskeleton limber and flexible.

Re: "ecospheres"
Any type of self contained environment that doesn't allow a proper exchange of oxygen and water change causes me some concern. Also, most types of these kind of containers are not very large and don't offer the inhabitants a comfortable amount of space or potential for variety inside same. And we ha...

Re: Shrimp dying of old age.
Another reason why extending their life span would be helpful was if you had either a rare species that was diffuclt to breed or you had a variation pop up that you wanted to attempt to replicate. More time offers us better chance to guarantee more successful breeding. Plus offers us a longer time w...

Re: Dangerous Shrimp (Hemimysis anomala)?
I have heard of the Zebra Mussel being a huge concern here in Ontario but an invasive shrimp is a new one for me. As others have already mentioned between extremely temperature changes and other species consuming them their survival rate would not be high enough to warrant concern. I also agree with...

Beautiful pics. I have yet to see any blue color species here in Toronto. So far it has been clear/white, red (variations) and light green.

Re: Shrimp Diet
I have a variety of prepared foods bought from a local pet shop. The Ghost Shrimp will eat most things but over time seem to be developing certain preferences. Brine and bloodworms are a favorite as well as green peas and melon rind. I recently started them on HBH Frog & Tadpole bites. They go a...

Re: Greetings & Observations
My apologies regarding the cross breeding question. Just found an answer in another thread. Canada does have strict laws regarding such things but nothing that I have found regarding small inverts specifically shrimp. Releasing into the wild is generally considered illegal for almost any animal purc...

Re: Shrimp dying of old age.
It is a shame no one has figured out yet how to breed/cross breed a longer life span for them. I wonder if there is a particular diet or chemical that can be introduced into their diet to give them that extension.

Re: Greetings & Observations
Thank you for the kind welcome. I hope over time to be an asset to the forum. In regard to the pet store experiences I actually had an opposite one yesterday. I went to a small pet shop in "china town" here in Toronto. Besides the various goldfish species that they had (and they had alot!)...

Greetings & Observations
Greetings all, I am a new member to this forum and I must say that there is a small treasure trove of information to be found here for those patient enough to read the threads. I have had an interest in fish, in general, for several years having kept betta, koi, fancy guppies and so on. Several year...
