Missing pincer legs
I just bought some home bred Sulawewi Cardinal shrimp. I put them in a 29 gallon aquarium with Malawa shrimp and Sulawewi Tylomelania snails. The next day after I received them I noticed that 1 of the cardinal shrimp was missing 3 of it's white pincer legs. I didn't notice it right away so I thought...

Malawa shrimp with white eggs
A while back I bought some Malawa shrimp from Mustafa. They've been doing great and breeding like crazy. Recently I found a couple Malawa shrimp carrying whiteish/yellow eggs. While all the others have been carrying black eggs.
Has anyone else had Malawa shrimp carrry whiteish/yellow eggs?

Re: to use RO water or not?
I bought a Ro unit for my shrimp but after reading mixed reviews on RO water I never took it out of the box. I decided to buy a Kold stel-IL filter. It makes water changes so much easier. Just hook it up to the faucet, temp match the water and dump it in the tank. I love not having to warm up cold w...

Re: General questions about Keeping CPOs
If you start a community invert tank make sure you do your research and only keep inverts that can't interbreed together. Otherwise you will end up with a tank full of hybreds.

Re: Carbon Filter Revisited
I just got my Kold Ster-il filter a few day ago. It's a bit of a pain to use because I don't a have a place to mount it. So when I use it I have to set it in the tub and hook it up to the bathroom sink with Python hose. Then fill my 5 gallon pail with it. But it does make water changes a lot faster....

Re: is it ok to have the sponge filter as the ONLY filter?
I have only sponge filters in my shrimp tanks. But I wonder if it's enough mechanical filteration. Because the fine particals don't get filtered out like they do with the HOB filters.

Re: Halocaridina rubra reproduction question
I was thinking about asking the same question about my Malawa shrimp. Their about 5 months old and 1.5 - 2 cm and haven't started reproducing yet. I have a 75 watt flourescent light for algae growth. Because of all the algae. I haven't been feeding them. But their growing, moulting, and pooping but ...

Re: Shrimp for an Eclipse 12g
You could start with getting 10 cherry shrimp so you have good odds of getting both males and females. Cherry shrimp are Neocaridina sp . Since the Neocaridina sp (Cherry, snowball, yellow, blue pearl)inter breed. It would be best to check the shrimp varieties section and choose a Caridina sp. with ...

Re: how many does it take?
It is often suggested that you start with 10 young shrimp. This way you will have good odds of have both males and females. However, if you have one berried female. That one shrimp is all you need to start a colony. Shrimp don't suffer from inbreeding so it's nothing to worry about.

Doing a search before asking questions is one of the rules. There is a lot of good information on Macros on this forum. Try seaching Macrobrachium.

Re: Carbon Filter Revisited
I'm really enjoying this filter! I can now do a water change on a 20 gallon tank in about 10 minutes. Turn on the python that is connected to my overflow sump and suck the tank down to half, turn on the hose out of my filter and fill the tank back up. Refill rate is 4 GPM so the tank is back up to ...

Re: want to get into shrimp but have some questions
There is no reason to bump. You didn't get an answer because we don't know. You say you want to get Macros but there are a lot of different kinds having different requirements. Some might be Ok in a 20 gallon tank but others are much too big for a tank that small. Such as the macrobrachium rosenberg...
