Re: Introducing myself ^_^

Lovepixie, I do not know for sure if you have super shrimp or not ? I am guessing you do based on the posting above yours. Without knowing that for sure I am reluctant to give out much more advice. Can you post a pic ?

Re: Overcrowding / over population

Welcome to the forum :smt006

From what I am learning, it takes a lot of these shrimp to create a concern with overpopulation. I have a 3 gallon tank with 8 shrimp so I too will be curious to the answer to this question from Mustafa.

Re: New To The Forum & To Opae Ula

Welcome to the forum :smt006 We have a similar background as I too use to have a saltwater reef tank setup & then switched over to dart frogs (azures) Like you I had a few tanks sitting empty & missed not have aquatic pets. When I found out about these super shrimp I had to try them ! So far...

Re: Introducing myself ^_^

Welcome to the forum :smt006 Mustafa can answer your questions better than I can, but I will try to answer them until he comes along with more in-depth answers. The shrimp do not make there own food, unless you call their poop which feeds & grows algae making their own food. I guess you could sa...

Re: Substrate questions

I have never used a sand substrate, I am interested in it but how do you clean it ? A typical vacuum suction siphon would suck it all up, wouldn't it ? Dan Hi Dan,Lu I thought "no water changes" would imply that you don't vacuum the substrate as that would require you to replace the water...

Re: What type of macro algae is this?

Hair algae can be nasty, I remember it from my saltwater reef days. I wonder if dropping your salinity would kill it off ? Mustafa says low salinity will not kill the macro algae so I wonder if this is worth trying ? I am following your posts closely as I'm concerned I'm going to have the same probl...

Re: What type of macro algae is this?

No fancy lights are needed. I had "stored" some of the macroalgae in a plastic container right next to my tanks. I had no overhead light, but received ambient light from the tanks nearby. The macroalgae in the container grew, albeit, slowly for several months before I put them back into s...

Substrate questions

I have read numerous times substrate don't matter, but yet I have read things like egg shells or crushed coral or other calcium type substrates. (I have read Mustafa uses sand, but that could even have a mineral content) With that said (& yes I'm notorious for reading into things & it can ge...

Re: Starting an Opea Ula Tank

I can answer a few of your questions, I don't think a bubbler is needed, but it probably won't hurt anything. Ammonia & nitrite need to be 0, I have some old coral live rock I just placed in my tank & it must of had some old junk on it as it spiked my ammonia, I removed my shrimp. My tank is...

Re: Shrimps for Romania

Good questions ! We are all learning from them. I will try to answer, but wait for Mustafa to confirm them. In regards to question 4., everything I have read says not to change the water, I remember reading somewhere Mustafa said he has a breeding tank that has not had a water change in years ! I to...

Re: Snails and macro algae

Hmmmmmm............ So what your saying is I screwed up by not getting snails from you  Dan Yes, that's exactly what I am saying. :-D Of course not...if you can control the nutrient input then you can control cyanobacteria growth without the snails, too. I'm going to try & control it ! Go...
