i have several kinds of shrimp: amano (yamato ebi), tiger, bumblebees (newly acquired), malayan (rainbow?) and one other type that i've been unable to identify. they all grew on me, even when at first i tho't they were quite ugly. i suspect it's true for many others out there as well.

cherries don't always color up right away. some will color up sooner than others. mustafa has stated in other posts that some juvies (well past the 3 week mark) don't color up till they reach adulthood. i would theorize that some cherries have better genes than others so some have a better dispositi...

if there is a sufficient source of algae in your tank and they have plenty of hiding spaces (java moss and riccia work best to my understanding) and the tank is well established, the cherries should do fine, even in a cohabitat tank with both fish and shrimp. fish will eat the babies if they catch a...

having plants in a shrimp tank (or any tank, for that matter) is highly beneficial. plants lessen the blow of ammonia and other byproducts that may otherwise be toxic. the lfs guy is right tho, excessive waste can cause an ammonia spike, so as long as you don't overfeed or introduce too many new spe...

bumblebee shrimp available

if you live in the greater SF Bay Area, Ocean Aquarium in SF just got in a sizeable shipment of bumblebee shrimp of all different sizes at a reasonable price ($3 apiece). if u're in driving distance and interested, make the trip out. it'll be well worth it!

shrimp love eating sinking tablet/pellet foods. they will fight for it, too, if you have a large number of them. i drop one in for the bottom feeders occasionally and the shrimp will always get to it before the fish ever do.

i don't have bbee shrimp myself, but the general rule w/ shrimp seems to be feed well (or have a good food source in your tank), have at least one male and one female, and you will beget baby shrimp. shrimps with a larval stage are quite a bit harder to raise. luckily bbee shrimp aren't that type. t...

seems like the avg gestation period for most shrimp is 3-4wks. i haven't heard too many experiences outside of this timeframe.

any aggression imo is not good in a tank with shrimp, but i think the heavy planting will give them plenty of spaces to hide. i've had some mildly aggressive neons before but they generally leave the shrimp alone. i don't foresee a problem with putting danios with the cherries except when the cherri...

looks male to me. the carapace where the swimmerettes are located does not extend too much from the main body, at least, as far as i can tell. of course, there is always the possibility it is a juvenile and hasn't fully developed yet. mustafa can tell u for sure, but i'm pretty confident it's a male...

the posting at fish-forums.com is $10 less than the one at APC ... fish-forums.com was started by the guys at aquatic-store.com, so they offer a slightly better price. but u r right, they are making the same offer at APC. i haven't been to that forum in awhile, hence, the oversight.

cheers!
