i bought some amanos quite a while back when they were still very small, so there was no way for me to tell whether they were males or females, since they look identical when they're juveniles. as it turns out, i have a larger ratio of males than females. i have at least 3 females and 4 males. the o...

big daddy yamato ebi
ok, so it's looks like the baby shrimp are about to hatch after a gestation period of 4 weeks. i pulled out the ol' 5.5 gallon tank and put in a sponge filter, a heater (set at 78dF), some java moss an other floating plants. i've moved "big momma," as i call her, to the 5.5G in anticipatio...

sounds like u're just speculating at this point. i'd advise waiting a little longer to see if they color out. there have been numerous other posts that attest to the ability of shrimp to change color according to water conditions. for example, rainbow shrimp change colors. i have only one in my tank...

i'd try getting a power inverter for your vehicle that plugs directly into the cigarette lighter, with at least one plug, one for heater and one for filter/air pump. this will keep the water heated and the water filtered and aerated. you can purchase battery powered air pumps as well. i don't know h...

someone pointed out to me that the rainbow shrimp look very similar to malayan shrimp in markings. malayan shrimp, however, grow larger (to amano size) than rainbows and juvy malayan are almost indistinguishable from rainbows, except malayans carry hundreds of tiny eggs, and rainbows carry the larg...

Re: 5 gallon Shimp tank
I have a 5 gallon I was considering making into a shrimp only tank. I was wondering if the 5 gallon was an ok size or if it was too small. It would be only for shrimps like red cherries and maybe some smaller algae ones. this should be fine. shrimp produce a generally small bioload and don't put to...
