Are these Malawa?

I bought these as unidentified. I couldn't find a carrying female while taking these - but the eggs look dark green. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p148/PhaidOut/Mystery%20Shrimp/th_IMG_0795.jpg http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p148/PhaidOut/Mystery%20Shrimp/th_IMG_0793.jpg http://i127.photobu...

Re: Compatible fish with freshwater shrimp?

Shrimp are definitely not "too fast for fish" and they also do not need to fit in a fishes mouth to be killed or eaten. Most shrimp are kind of delicate. That said you should know what your fish eat. Don't trust the guys at Petsmart or Walmart either because in my experience the chances ar...

Sulawesi Shrimp Larval Development - Suppressed or Not

I do more lurking here then posting and I know it is hard to generalize - but does anyone know much about the varieties of Sulawesi Shrimp larval development? Malawa shrimp I know are fully suppressed larval states. It sort of sounds like the Cardinals are too but I have not seen anyone say this. Do...

Treating Columnaris

I have a tank of endlers and red cherry shrimp. I have had this particular tank set up just this way for a year and a half and suddenly I have an outbreak of columnaris. Probably brought on by a combination of a power outage, vacation neglect and some overcrowding... (too many of both) So now for th...

Thanks again Mustafa... That is what I was suspecting from all the posts I had read, but again just trying to ID what I picked up at the LFS. The picture fits what I see in my tank perfectly. Color is ever so very slightly different, but the pattern is the same. They are the slightest bit more to th...

Ok, I don't have a good picture. But after watching them for a few days they are identical in appearance now to the Malaysian Rainbow Shrimp here: http://www.azgardens.com/shrimpfactory.php

Are those the real thing?

Thanks for the reply Jackie, What you are suggesting is using Malaysian Trumpet snails, I have a couple thoughts on that... First they compete with shrimp for food...I suppose that can be dealt with easily enough. But what about young shrimp freshly free swimming? Are they quick enough to get away f...

Hydrogen sulphide...

Mustafa or anyone else that my know the answer, I see that you use only sand in your tanks for substrate. I am curious how you avoid hydrogen sulphide problems. I have been considering using it in my shrimp tank, but to avoid hydrogen sulphide you would have to keep it very thin (I am guessing less ...

Yet another "rainbow" shrimp post

Went to my local LFS tonight looking for CBWs and came out with 2 "rainbow" shrimp. Since I have seen many posts that these do not really exist in the hobby...unless something changed...I want to try and identify them. The first sure looked like a red cherry at a very "light" mom...

Perhaps it causes the shrimp activity?

Just a thought but do you have a submersible heater? Is it in good condition? I guess I am wondering if it is electrical pops... I had a heater going bad one time that did that - caused a mild current in the tank. I didn't lose anything but....

Red Cherry Deaths

Ok, it looks like I have about 3 shrimp in "questionable" condition. The tank is a 10 gallon. The problem I have is it the water, food, just shipping or combination. full story... Recieved them on Friday - one day overdue with Heat pad not heating... Not sure why it was not working, I mani...

That is true... But I know that mineral/hardness vary greatly from local to local. In the states we do have different water processing requirements form Europe...Germany probably has some of the best water in europe though... Even here it varies. I know the water where I went to college is substanti...

Thanks Mustafa,

Just threw the iodine in at the last moment...popped into my head as something I recalled from somewhere before I submitted.

Algae is hair and thread. I do a 20% change a week in those tanks as is. So no big deal there.

They love the sponge filter for sure...

Maybe thinking a little out of the box on this...

Is possible that there is something in the water or in greater concentration in Germany that is causing the plants to generate more of the compound? Is it in a particular part of Germany?

Ineresting thing to watch...
