I had a similiar experience with Driftwood. I had a big piece of driftwood that was making my water red and the shrimps were slowly dying off. The die off finally stopped after I removed the driftwood. I have spoken to a lot of shrimp keepers and most of them said that driftwood is ok to use in shri...

Hey Backy, Yes I have shrimps if you need some but I think the most important thing for you to do first is to cycle the tank, plant some plants etc. It's not a good idea to put shrimps into a brand new tank. Shrimps are much much more sensitive to 'New Tank Syndrome' then fish. You might want to kee...

From what I know about shrimps and crabs ( invertebrates ). They can only grow in size or replacement body parts when they molt. It will take a couple of molts to completely regrow the entire limp and it's the same with antennas.

Try to do that with the light off. This will give the shrimp a chance to calm down and find a place to hide. Also, if there are fishes in the tank then it's a must to do it with the lights off. Most fish will chase after things that get dropped into the tanks thinking that it might be food. Good luc...

Usually I just put the bag in the tank so the temp of the water in the tank and the bag can slowly match up with each other. That will take about 30 mins. Of course that depands on the temp. difference of the two. Then I will add a little bit of the tank water into the bag. I would do that in increm...

Are you wondering about how to add the shrimps into the tank or just what to do for the shrimps first few days AFTER adding them to the tank?

Well I guess the shrimp can be stressed out from being pragnant.

I learned from being around pragnant women that it's not a fun time for them and if the babies ended up with redish stripes then my theory of baby stressed from being banged around during gestation is correct! :-D

Another thought...I always wondered if the shrimps are born with a humongous headache.

It must not be fun to spend the gestation period under the mommy shrimps flippers cos they always get banged around when the mommy shrimp swims.

Just a thought :-D

It looks like the shrimp I caught at a hillstream in HK when I was visiting last november. Also at the stream were a lot of mitten crabs like the ones what are invading our california rivers.
