You do not need all that much crushed coral...just a couple pieces are fine. It does not just come in sand form but also in chunks. Plus, you could just add some calcium once in a while, but that won't be necessary if you already have hard water. Crushed coral won't be necessary then either...New Yo...

Why should bee and crystal shrimps not be allowed to cross breed? Care to enlighten me? Because most people want to keep their shrimp species/varieties pure. This is especially true with wild shrimp, which could be endangered in nature. The Crystal Red does not occur in the wild, but the bee shrimp...

I don't think it has anything to do with an algae diet (plus his tank did not look like it was growing any algae at all). I am thinking that the tank is not established, since it looked like it was a newly put up tank. Shrimp are very susceptible to the "new tank syndrome". They are doing ...

Go to the "Articles" section of this website and read the Article on keeping shrimp there. It applies pretty much to all algae/microorganism eating shrimp.

Take care,

Caridina babaulti is not always bright green. They can be dull green, dirty green, orange, bright red, yellow....with and without a stripe in the back. It's a very variable species. You really need to provide a picture of some sort for a better identification, and even then it's not 100% without loo...

Hi Brad, I'll see what I can do. It's becoming increasingly harder to observe that behavior since my shrimp have lost all fear and are crusing around the tank. The burrowing behavior is for safety and occurs when the shrimp feel threatened. Maybe I'll have to scare them a little to pose for the came...

I really have no experience with clown loaches, since I have never kept any. They do get quite huge. Their mouth does not seem like it's meant for predatory purposes (except for slow moving things like snails), but you never know. Maybe someone else has had experiences with clown loaches and shrimp....

Definitely do *not* put in the shrimp. They can't take any ammonia at all and will die very quickly. I would not put any fish in the tank to cycle it if possible. Try the "fishless cycle" method (do a search on google). You need to go get yourself some pure ammonia (any concentration is fi...

Some shrimp species go for the wafers, some don't. The name "algae wafer" or "spirulina wafer" is misleading though, since they contain only about 3% algae or sprirulina. 97% of it is just like any other fish food. Naturally growing algae and micro-organisms are, in my opinion, t...

That's a good question. There are so many different tree species out there that it would be impossible to make a list of poisonous leaves not suitable for a shrimp tank.

Just collect the leaves from your oak tree in the fall to be on the safe side.

Take care,

Yes, you can rear red cherry shrimp in that tank since the plants will provide the oxygen and some food also (although you do have to feed, too). You can put 10 in there, but if they do breeed, you'd have to find a bigger tank for all the young shrimp since your little tank is way too small for that...

Yes, it's true. Otherwise I would not have written it down... :-D I have not witnessed crossbreeding firsthand yet (since I try to not keep different species together), but others have. Especially in Germany there have been many reports. Actually, some people in Germany looked at the Bumblebee shrim...
