Re: keeping shrimp in the dark

you shouldn't have any problem with a dark shrimp tank for a couple days. Shrimp are going to eat in the dark and there will be some ambient light during the day. Dark will also help you control algae as two of the three things needed for plants to grow (and algae is a plant) are light, and nutrient...

Re: Question for Sulawesi tanks

Mustafa, Thanks for confirming my beliefs. I don't mess with the tank except to do five gallon water changes every week or two (sometimes just replacing the water lost due to evaporation as we are in a dry environment here in the desert). I take five gallons of filtered water and then double dose wi...

Question for Sulawesi tanks

Mustafa, I know you pretty much feed flake, pellet, some algae, and boiled vegitables (with the occasional dead fish), but I am currious as to your take on the "Mineral Suppliments" to help make the tank water/ water change water have similar properties to the Sulawesi region water. Myself...

behavioral differences between Cardinals and Cherries

I have noticed that the Red Cherry Shrimp swim all over the tank and don't spook when the tank light is turned on in the morning. I have noticed that the Cardinals crawl and climb but don't swim, and that they sometimes jump when the tank light is turned on even though there is some ambient light co...

Re: Cardinal Shrimp

All of the cardinals imported from a person in Hong Kong died. I waited a few weeks and bid on some from Texas (a lot of 10) and eventually won, and then bid on a lot of 10 from California and won so now there are 19 (one died the day after I recieved it) in the tank. I took the sellers advice from ...

Re: Cardinal Shrimp

This morning (26 June 2012) at 09:30 I saw the tail of one as it was hanging upsidedown in a cave created with the rock in the tank. The tail was bobbing as it was probably eating algae.

Glass tops and bright lights can provide a food source

I use glass tops on all my tanks as it gives a nice clean look and glass tops can with the aid of a plastic strip be customized to give your tank a very tight fitting lid to keep critters from climbing out of the tank. Combine this with a good light level and a couple airstones with enough air runni...

Baby Cherry shrimp. Yay!!

Many of the females that came in the lot of 100 cherry shrimp were berried and today I noticed three 1/8 inch shrimplets on a small six inch long piece of driftwood. They are in a tank with no fish; just shrimp, snails, and blackworms (the blackworms clean up the muck under the filter plate of an un...

Re: newbie here with a couple simple questions

Make sure the sponge on your filter isn't too coarse as shrimplets can get trapped in the sponge if you are powering the filter with a Power head. A solution to this is to put a media bag for a sump style filter or some pantyhose over your sponge as a pre-filter to keep smaller shrimp from getting s...

Re: Cardinal Shrimp

On the night of the 20th of June (I recieved the shrimp on 13 Jun) I went digging in the tank and removed the rock and put it in a bucket. Before I took any of the rock out I double and tripple checked to make sure it was shrimp free. I then was dismayed to find at least 20 dead shrimp (which I remo...

Re: Cardinal Shrimp

Please keep reporting about your shrimp. I would like to see how they fare in your tank given that they are wild-caught. I asked if they were wild caught or tank raised and was told "tank raised" but.... I really think you are correct as they came from Hong Kong via New York. There is one...

feed for freshwater shrimp?

I feed flake food, algae wafer pieces, the ocasional blanched cucumber/spiniach/ shredded carrot. Are there any other feeds I should consider? I ask as I see shrimp food advertized that is supposed to help them have a harder exoskeleton.

Re: Cardinal Shrimp

Get the lens you want, the 70-200 f2.8 and buy a set of extension tubes... you will be suprized at how the extension tubes change your minimum focusing distance to allow you the advantages of the zoom without having to buy a macro lens.
