Re: Algae Build Up... Other problems
Update: I found the 3 corpses and removed them. So I do indeed only have 2 shrimp. I ran some tests. Apparently I have trace levels of ammonia which I attribute to those dead shrimp. Perhaps I will do some partial changes to take care of that. All other levels are perfect. I added a nerite snail and...

Re: photos of dwarf hermit
That is probably fairly normal. I'd expect that if its a large supplier of marine animals they are in holding pens that don't really allow them to have their choice of shells. Sometimes mine even switch back and forth between two shells before they finally decide which one to make permanent. And I ...

Re: Ramblings from a Vernal Pool Geek
I really want to keep an ongoing culture of seed shrimp. Does anybody have advice on how to do that?

Re: Algae Build Up... Other problems
I noticed the missing shrimp after topping off with RO water. I've gone through a tough spot in my life, and I neglected little things life topping off my shrimp tank or caring properly for my African clawed frog. I think I may have let too much water evaporate, and then topped off too much. I've ha...

Substrate
Once I get my current aquarium up to par I want to start another. I want to use clear or iridescent marbles as substrate. Would that be safe for Hawaiian Red Shrimp?

Re: Algae Build Up... Other problems
Thanks for the help. The pet stores in my area keep nerite snails in fresh water. Would moving them to my brackish aquarium be too stressful for them, and would they create too much of a bio load for my 1.5 lb. aquarium? I don't use any artificial light, and the aquarium is not in direct sunlight. I...

Algae Build Up... Other problems
I have a 1.5 lb. Hawaiian Red Shrimp aquarium. There is quite a bit of algae build up that makes viewing my shrimp difficult. Also, I may be wrong but I'm afraid 3 of my shrimp have died since I can only find 2 of them. If this is the case, I take full responsibility. I neglected topping off the tan...

How is the crab experiment going? Could you post pictures of the crabs? (never mind. I see that you removed them...)

Re: Breeding: still waiting...
I'm still enjoying my shrimp. They are very active and healthy looking. However, I never see berried shrimp or larvae. I've had the shrimp for about a year, and I feed them once or twice a month. They are always eating algae though. I only have five. Could they all be the same sex?

Betta with shrimp?
I am starting a 3 gallon tank for 1 male betta in the next couple of weeks. I would love to add shrimp to the tank. I'm considering red cherry or ghost shrimp. Is this a good idea? If not, are there any shrimp species that would be a good idea?
