Pink sea urchin, plastic grass, and white shells without messing up the water parameters?
I should probably avoid dried small starfish is that right?
Sorry if we discussed this before I just want to start off with no problems when I set up a new small tank.

Re: How often should I see berried shrimp in my 5 gal. tank?
Jill here is an answer to a similar question I had from a grad student of Scott Santos: Are your H. rubra reproducing reliably? -Most of the tanks we have in culture have been reproducing for the last several years now, but it depends on what you consider "reliably". Some tanks seem to co...

Re: How often should I see berried shrimp in my 5 gal. tank?
Hi Rob and Ken, I think you're right it's just a wait and see. I was just hoping people have been set up for much longer then me could tell me an average. Maybe every tank is different.
My little larvae are doing well just about two in a half weeks old and looking like really tiny shrimp.

How often should I see berried shrimp in my 5 gal. tank?
Three months after setup I saw my first berried shrimp but was wondering how often on average in a five gallon tank of 65-70 shrimp should I see a berried shrimp?
The first berried shrimp was discovered in early February but there hasn't been any more since. Her eggs hatched just fine.

Re: Is this algae or settled dust on the surface of my tank?
It's clearly biofilm, Jill. After a while all those "specks" will connect and you'll probably have a continuous layer on the surface. I would not recommend the hermit crab for your setup, as it can't sustain itself on the biofilm (algae, bacteria, fungi that grow on surfaces), but needs l...

Thanks guys! Maybe it's time to get a blue legged crab now that I have enough algae to support everyone. Hope they have one at Petco.

Re: Is this algae or settled dust on the surface of my tank?
Mine is a bit green too. It's evenly dispersed. My shrimp hang upside down under it as well feeding. I'm just not sure what I should do with it, skim it off or just leave it.

Is this algae or settled dust on the surface of my tank?
If it's algae will it get thicker? Should I use the shrimp net and skim some of it out?
Do you guys have a problem with it in your tanks?

Re: Latest photos of two desktop "tanks"
I thought I would share a current photo of my two desktop "tanks". The first is a 1/2 gallon glass hurricane jar from Target at $2.50, which has about 20 Opae. The second is a 1-1/4 gallon plastic pretzel jar which has about 40 Opae. I added fake plants and flora for visual appeal and inc...
