Re: My success story

The larvae from January are now free-swimming and browsing algae on the tank sides. Another berried female showed up today. I thought I saw her molt a week ago. This one has more eggs than the first 2 did. The juvenile shrimp from the first hatch (last fall) are now big enough that it's hard to tell...

Re: Eggs!

Incubation in my tank has been between 30 and 40 days, depending on room temperature.

Re: The case of the missing eggs

Only one thought to add: I have just 9 adults in the tank. They are all visible simultaneously a couple of times a day. There was only one adult berried female visible for the last 2 months. The only other source of eggs would have been the young shrimp from last October. Can they breed that young?

Re: The case of the missing eggs

That's funny I asked that question three days ago. I have over a hundred shrimp in a five gallon tank so it would be impossible to tell what's going on but you have a controlled environment so my guess would be yes they can hatch if they fall. This is just my thoughts based on what you said but I r...

The case of the missing eggs

Last November when I noticed the second berried female in my tank, I counted about 10 to 12 eggs. As the weeks went by I saw fewer eggs. I didn't think much of it, as I had read about females dropping eggs. Not much one can do about it. Just before the few remaining eggs hatched a few days ago, she ...

Re: My success story

Great news. Back on Nov. 30, 2013 you were talking about how slowly your baby supershrimp were growing, 1mm in two + months. How large are they now? They are 1/3 to 1/2 the length of the adults--about 6-8 mm. They have picked up the pace. A couple of them are large enough that I must look carefully...

Re: My success story

Seven new larvae showed up today, from the female that berried the end of last November. She was originally carrying about 12 eggs. I think it took a little longer for them to hatch compared to the last batch because of cooler water temperatures. The tank is unheated, and during the winter months ha...

Re: Do the supershrimp eat the macroalgae? I need to know

I have not seen my shrimp eat the macroalgae. They scour the tank sides and substrate for the green algae growing there, and sometimes invert themselves to check out the biofilm on top of the water. I have green algae growing on the macroalgae, but I've not observed the shrimp 'picking' at it like t...

Very slowly. They have grown maybe a millimeter in the 2.5 months.

Re: My success story

The newly hatched shrimp are now about 2 1/2 months old, and are benthic. I originally counted 10, but I've never seen more than 7 at any one time for the last month. They behave just like the adults--fun to watch. Another female is now carrying eggs as of a week ago. I still have not fed any food a...

Re: What is a safe temperature range for our shrimp?

My tank sees mid to upper 60s in the winter, low 70s in summer.
