Re: Origins of initial stock of Supershrimp

I'm jealous. I have about 45 shrimp I got on eBay almost two years ago. Last April one shrimp was berried for about fifty days. The larva finally released into the water and the next day they were gone. Have never had another one berried. A majority of my shrimp seem to be "saddled" if I u...

Re: Origins of initial stock of Supershrimp

I don't know if you'll ever find out. I haven't seen Mustafa post on here for many months. Anybody know what's up with that?

Re: baby shrimp die

You're having better luck than I am. I had my tank for a year before the first female was berried. She had eggs for forty days before they finally hatched. I watched a couple of them swim around, and went to bed. In the morning they were gone and have not reappeared. Nor have I had any more berried ...

Re: photos of dwarf hermit

I have to eat a little crow. I looked in the tank last night and saw all four crabs. So what I thought was a crab body was indeed just a moult.

Mine do have blue on their front legs. Do you think then that they are bluelegs?

Has anyone had any luck getting these to reproduce?

Re: photos of dwarf hermit

I don't think it's transfer shock, as I've had the original 2 crabs for four weeks and the other two for three weeks. I'm pretty sure it was a body and not a molt, but I'll keep and eye out and see if can ever see all four crabs at one time (unlikely due to all the hidey-holes I've provided amongst ...

Re: photos of dwarf hermit

I ordered three crabs but only received two. The vendor sent me two more when I contacted them about it. The first two arrived in black nerite shells, and one swapped out almost immediately. Yesterday I found a dead crab, outside of its shell. It's soft rear body was missing, and another crab was ne...

Re: Eggs!

Mustafa, I forgot to answer your question about how much I have been feeding. I follow your recommendation to feed no more than a small amount every two weeks - a piece of fish food about the size of a pin head. I probably could take your advice and not feed at all, because I have plenty of algae. B...

Re: Eggs!

Mustafa, I still haven't seen the larvae again, so I have come to accept that they are probably dead. I haven't checked my water parameters in a long time. Might the larvae be more sensitive than the adults to minor departures from ideal water chemistry?

Re: Additions to tanks

I bought three of the dwarf hermits too. They've been in my Opae tank for a few days now. I fed my usual tiny chunk of fish food to the tank today (once every two weeks, of course!), and realized that one of the crabs had it and the shrimp weren't getting any. I fed another chunk, same result. So fo...

Re: Eggs!

I just gave the flashlight method a try. No luck though. I use a flashlight a lot to observe the tank, especially when I'm looking for something in particular. I had several dramatic population explosions of 'pods when my tank was new, but now I just have a few individuals that can be observed at an...

I ordered some too. Looking forward to trying some new critters in the tank with the Opae.

Re: Eggs!

On April 20 I went out of town for 5 days. Miss Eggy was still carrying 8 eggs, and they'd developed the light and dark areas described by Ken. I had hoped that they would have hatched by the time I returned on the 24th. And yay, when I got home I found two larvae swimming in the tank! Found their m...

Re: Eggs!

Just spotted Miss Eggy again. And Ken, I think I am seeing the color change in the eggs - light and dark areas. I had about given up on these eggs, thinking they are not fertile and the shrimp would eventually abandon them. But now I have hopes again that they will hatch soon. This has sure been a l...

Re: Eggs!

Thanks, Ken. I'll watch for that color change. She is so secretive - except for the first day I noticed her, when she was swimming out in the open and I got the pics I posted originally, she has stayed in the rockpile, usually back away from the aquarium walls. Although the other shrimp rarely react...
