Re: Saddled Opae's

Congrats! Ken's numbers are about right (there is variation depending on temperature). Now make sure that you do not change anything in your routine due to excitement. Getting them to be berried is the first step, keeping the larvae alive is another challenge altogether if one is prone to overfeedi...

I have Larvae! A question for you.

I see at least 20 or more floating about. Occasionally one will zip to the left or the right, but mostly motionless. I've seen at least five or six berried females over the last month, so I'm expecting to see more floating around soon. YAY! My patience paid off :D Is this the hard part now? Getting ...

Good job on clearing up my photo. Thanks!

It really is bright green. Wish you could see it in person. Awesome!

Re: My First Berried Opae!

While I was trying to get better pics, another berried female showed up... unfortunately she is only carrying a single egg. I wasn't able to get pics yet.

I never thought it would happen, but just out of the blue.... .she appeared.

This was the best shot I could get. Even with my macro, I wasn't getting very clear pics. I will try to
get some better ones.

Can you tell how old the eggs are?

And how many more days for the larvae stage?

Re: Saddled Opae's

Congrats! I'm glad that your shrimp are doing much better! Lighting *may* make a difference if: 1. your light is not strong enough for sufficient algae growth 2. different lights have different spectra, and algae may prefer one spectrum over the other, and, hence, grow more vigorously. As for the &...

Saddled Opae's

Hi All! I've had a long struggle with my Opae's It had been a couple of months and still there wasn't much activity. After trying everything in the book to try to get my supershrimp out of hiding, I decided to try different light types. I was told in the past that the lighting didn't matter. So... I...

Re: Where have they gone?

Last night, I came home from work. My little Opae's were out and about. I decided, that since it's been weeks since they've been fed, it was time to give them a little something. I dropped in one pellet of shrimp cuisine. I thought it would be easy to get out if they didn't like it. It took about 5 ...

Re: Where have they gone?

Weird... they still seem to come out at certain times. Busiest time seems to be early evening. Like when I come home from work at 7. By the time I went to bed at midnight they were all hiding again. Even after lights went off at 9. This morning there were a few out and about, but now (10:15am) there...

Re: Where have they gone?

I'm very excited. I came home from work tonight to find a total of 12 out of 30 opae's out in the open (mostly on the substrate). I've been home about an hour and only see about 5 or 6 on the rocks and none on the substrate. Anyway.... it's better than zero, so I'm very excited about it :D Just thou...

Re: Where have they gone?

I also don't think that the light is the problem, but you can give it a try and report back. I still think you should just leave the tank alone. I know it's hard. :-D But it will be rewarding to walk over one day and see activity increase to a level that your shrimp come out and are in the open eve...
